The Sherpa are a Tibetan-related ethnic group living in the high valleys of eastern Nepal. There are at least two active Sherpa dialects. The Sherpa people were made famous as trekking and mountain climbing guides in Nepal.
The Sherpa people adhere to a Tibetan form of Buddhism along with animistic beliefs in spirits. These folk beliefs influence every aspect of Sherpa life. This leaves them open to demonic activity and oppression. Sherpa festivals often involve magic and spirit worship. The Sherpa population of over 100,000 in Nepal are unreached. Because of their strict adherence to their local superstitions and the remote areas where most Sherpa communities live, they have little access to the Gospel or Christian influence.
"The Ancient Path" Gospel booklet has been translated into one dialect of Sherpa and we have a national partner who is committed to reaching other dialect groups also. Pray for a new translation of an additional dialect and for new converts to help reach others in these remote groups.
