Leveraging American Business for the Gospel in Nicaragua

Motivated by a Past of Poverty
Alvaro Ramirez and his wife Erica minister to children and teens through sports, art, English classes, and other activities. They connect the young people to the local church, and eventually reach whole families with the Gospel.
Their early experiences of poverty, civil war, and hunger motivate them to reach out in friendship to share Good News where it is desperately needed.
Teaching Business Leadership Skills Through Partnership
In March 2022, Alvaro helped to organize and carry out a leadership training seminar at a camp. The organizers invited pastors, youth workers, and teens to learn how a leader’s core values impact his or her Kingdom ministry.
One of Alvaro’s friends from the business community in the USA provided training via Zoom. This partnership connection was very important to Alvaro.
“I’m thankful to God for being able to leverage the American business world for the good of the Gospel. It energizes me to see young minds being equipped to lead our congregations.”
Baseballs and Bibles
Since Sunday afternoons were usually a time when men in their community just relaxed, Alvaro invited fathers picking up their children from the discipleship program to join them to play baseball. This helped grow relationships with parents. Two more teens started coming to the youth meetings. Whole families began attending church services together. God used baseball to open doors for praying and reading the Bible.

Pray:
- For God to raise up church leaders from among the young people.
- For the local church to grow and be strengthened.
- For effective discipleship among the youth of Nicaragua.
Give:
- For financial support of Alvaro, Erica, and their family.
- For necessary tools like sports equipment, Bibles, and whiteboards.
- For a basic building for church and other ministry gatherings.
