Using Juxtaposition in India to Share Christ

The juxtaposition in India can be quite remarkable. Poor villages can be located right next to a wealthy neighborhood. High rises next to shantytowns. And universities next to slums.

Our Live Global national partner we call Paul has decided to maximize this juxtaposition for God’s glory. Paul is a university-educated medical doctor who has set aside this career and taken up another as a missionary to his own people in India.

He noticed the tremendous need for discipleship among university students as well as a huge need to care for the needs (physical and spiritual) of people in the slums. This is how his ministry was born.

Loving People in the Slums

For ten years, Paul and his team have loved and cared for people in the slums through medical camps, education, counseling, clothing distribution, and overall relationships. One specific way has been through an after-school tutoring program.

Hundreds of kids have been helped with their education, and even come to know the Lord, as a result of this program.

But where did he find all of the tutors? At the nearby university of course!

University Students Become Disciples and Tutors

Volunteers at the nearby university have answered the need to go into the slum to tutor students who need it. And at the same time, these volunteers have become friends with, and discipled by, Paul and his ministry team.

Through this unique ministry strategy, Paul has found a way to evangelize and disciple young people in both demographics effectively.

Slum Kids Being Served by their Own

Today Paul and his team are even seeing kids who grew up in the slums become college graduates, lovers of Jesus, and upcoming leaders to take over this tutoring ministry themselves!

What a blessing to see the kids of the slum being served by their own.

This has allowed Paul and his team to move to other slum areas and become a part of God’s saving work in other locations in the city.

About Outreach in Slums and Universities

Meet Paul, a highly-educated medical doctor in India. Several years back he went to Delhi for further study and was stopped in his tracks when he saw the tremendous need and opportunity to engage university students in discussions of faith. Later, Paul set aside his medical practice completely to get involved full-time in developing Bible studies and doing outreach to the university community. This ministry has since expanded into a multi-faceted ministry, including outreach to the slums and church planting efforts.

Paul is a dynamic evangelist and apologist. He works with all strata of society. University kids have come to Christ and now many of them lead their own ministries in the slums in Delhi. What began as Paul's Bible studies at the university have grown into full-blown churches. It's exciting to see the university students grow in their faith as they graduate, get married, and begin discipling their own kids in a knowledge of the one true God.

From a music academy, to church planters training, to intense two-year discipleship programs, to coffee chop chats, this Delhi university ministry is growing because of the Lord's faithfulness to answer prayer.
