“There’s No Truth There”: Buddhism to Christ

“My whole village will not be able to save me from hell when the time comes,” one 75-year old from Myanmar said. She said she had been a Buddhist nun for her whole life in search of the truth, but it was not able to set her free, because there’s no truth there.

Editor’s note: Sometimes we like to share stories directly from our partners. Despite any imperfect English, their words tell it better than we can. This is one such story about a 75-year-old woman turning from Buddhism to Christ from our partner Suan in Myanmar.

Today four people put their trust in Jesus alone for their salvation. When word from one woman got to us that she had decided to believe and follow Jesus Christ alone, she removed all her idols and images, her husband and her family don’t like that at all.

But today she requested us to take her to XXXXX-town to get water baptism since she is too old (75 years old) to come by herself. I and three of our church leaders, at her request, went to her to pick her up. Her whole village are very angry with her. They consider her to be like a betrayer of the whole village. Therefore, I told her if she wants to postpone she can. But she said, “my whole village will not be able to save me from hell when the time comes”. She said she had been a Buddhist nun for her whole life in search of the truth, but it was not able to set her free, because there’s no truth there.  She took meditation every morning starting from 4:00 am – 8 am for the past three years up until recently but she had no peace though she was getting old.

But when she heard the Gospel which said Jesus has paid her debts of sin, she believed in Jesus and knows that He has saved her from Hell. She had heard the gospel a few days ago through her grandson who is one of our church members who had also been kicked out from his village.

But her husband, her daughters and sons and all her family and her villagers told her in front of me “Don’t come back if you go with these Christians, never enter our village again,” they said.

She happily responded that she had found what she is searching for her whole life. So she decided to follow Christ today. We will give her water baptism tomorrow. She is very happy that she finally got the assurance she needed.
