In the more advanced cities of Egypt, people look down on Rania’s city. They see it as backward, undeveloped, even primitive. Mostly, they just say it’s “simple.” Still, over 1.5 million people live there, and followers of Jesus are few. In this gospel destitute place, the darkness of the Majority religion mixes with the darkness of tribal witchcraft. Threatening to snuff out the light, the darkness stirs Rania to be a multiplier.
It’s not normal, even among believers in this region, to cultivate a passion for people who need Jesus. It’s out of the ordinary to create a plan to reach people with the gospel. It takes patience and perseverance to develop connections within Majority communities.
The Gifts of a Multiplier
But God has gifted Rania to make connections in her Arabic heart language, with her hospitable spirit. Her Christ-like compassion translates to people from Muslim and Arabized Nubian communities. According to the Joshua Project, 0% of the Nubian people of Rania’s region claim to be Christians. The 100% Islamic community is considered a Frontier Unreached People Group (UPG).
Gifted with an ability to disarm others with kindness, Rania sees places of spiritual darkness as a territory in need of the light of Christ. When she first entered this unreached community, Rania went alone, with courage from God. But she sees the need to multiply her heart for outreach into a movement of national believers.
Multiplier of Relationships in Her Own Culture
For several years, Rania has been connecting to the people of one community. In creating relationships in the delicate area we’ll call H, she came to understand physical needs, as well as spiritual ones. When a crisis came in the form of a devastating desert storm, Rania knew what the needs were, who the people of influence are, and how to help. People in need already trusted her in the H community where trust is hard-won and rationed with suspicion.
Rania combined her local understanding, her established relationships, her leadership role in the Christian community, and her passion for outreach to organize a collaborative response to the needs. With wisdom and foresight, she knew it was an opportunity to build up the local church. In mobilizing disciples to serve alongside her, others understood what it means to reach out to the lost in Jesus’ name. People may not be ready to welcome Jesus, but they opened their homes and hearts to Rania and her team of people who love Jesus.

Multiplying Her Missional Heart
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
This wasn’t the first time believers in Rania’s city experienced the power of outreach. It wasn’t the first time she took others with her. Rania makes multiplication her ministry approach. Because of this missional foundation, people joined her when a crisis opened doors into the darkness of the unreached H community. Once there, the team saw more needs, more open doors. Now, they’re praying about what’s next. They’re praying about multiplying their reach into the darkness of H.
Within their own nation, Egyptian believers are crossing cultures to reach unreached peoples with the gospel of Christ. Rania the multiplier is training her team to reach out, mentoring local believers to take the light of the gospel into the darkness.
