In the state of Nagaland, India, people are typically either Christians or Animists. And the animists have traditionally been challenging to reach with the gospel. The Heraka people group are among those who practice animism and they have experienced past deception that has led them to fear Christians trying to convert them.

But God has not forgotten the Heraka people. He will keep His Word to redeem some from this group.
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands. (Revelation 7:9)
God’s Work Among the Herakas
Live Global’s national partners, pastor Ato and his wife Seno, have been praying for and working among the Heraka people in Nagaland. Pastor Ato and his wife lead the Evangelism in Nagaland project in Northeast India.
Pastor Ato has made a trip to the region of Nagaland where the Herakas are a few times before. He has a strong relationship with a Christian church in the area. And once again, Pastor Ato set out to interact with the Heraka people, who—as pastor Ato puts it—”never want to hear the gospel.”
Together with the pastor of the church in the area, they planned to send out a team of people, two-by-two with an interpreter, as they visited the homes of the Herakas to share the good news and to pray with them.
Pastor Ato and the pastor even got to visit the chief priest. Pastor Ato said they had a good time sharing the gospel with his whole family. They all listened very carefully from the beginning to end. This was the first time Pastor Ato had witnessed to the priest and his family.
God Had Opened Doors
It’s amazing that the Herakas allowed the Christians to come to their homes. The pastor in the area said that typically they never want to invite Christians to come near them, or to share the gospel with them or pray. But, through lots of prayer, God opened the door so that the team could visit as many Heraka families as they could! Together they visited 13 families.
