About the Ministry
The Miskitu people are an indigenous people, whose population spreads between the Eastern coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras. The people group has more than 500,000 native speakers and have a vibrant culture and history. They are known historically as being one of very few Latin American people groups who were never conquered by Spanish colonizers. Currently, Miskitu people mostly live in small communities found along waterways used to travel and ship goods from one area to another.
At this time, the Miskitu people have a Bible translated into their language from the late 1990s. However, the Bible has many significant errors due to the text being rushed through its peer review process. Additionally, it is inaccessible to many Miskitu people due to its copyright restrictions preventing printing regionally. The Miskitu people have for many years desired a Bible that is more accessible and accurate.

Burdened by this need, Pastor Ludy Washington began translating the Bible in his home using his family to look over his work. While fulfilling other commitments and pastoring his church, he slowly worked on a new, more accessible translation until Live Global team members met him in 2025. In early 2026 Ludy Washington’s dream began to become a reality as Live Global team members were able to connect him with a Bible Society. By February, Ludy assembled a small, diverse team of men to translate the Bible using professional Bible translation software.
At this time, the formal translation process is just beginning. Overall costs are $2,000 monthly for the pay of three translators, food for the read and review committee, and needed technology. All donations given will go to further this Bible Translation Project.
