When We Listen to God in Storms
Her plans included weeks of international travel and partnering with teammates in a ministry close to Rania’s heart — work with refugees. It all seemed good, but then storms came. Rania leaned in to listen to God for His direction.
Storms bring opportunities for outreach in Majority communities, and Rania says, “My ministry is relationships.” An unusual rejection, illness, and weather event brought opportunities for the people who know Jesus as Savior and for those yet to know Him.
Storms Bring Opportunities for Christians
Shortly after the embassy rejected her needed travel visa, she traveled home feeling tired from all of the complications, but sure God was in control. Then, back home, Rania fell ill with Covid. With her recovery still in motion, a severe desert storm swept across Upper Egypt. Unusual heavy rain and strong winds impacted communities where she had cultivated trusting relationships. People needed help.
The believers of the region, a minority in their Middle Eastern land, rallied their resources to offer relief in the name of Jesus.
As Rania helped to coordinate outreach teams to visit multiple sites in the city that serves as her ministry base, she could see how God used the storm to develop new leaders. He had her where He wanted her.
“Sometimes my vision becomes blurred. I need to listen to God, not people.”
Storms Bring Opportunities for Lost People
With holes in their rooftops and walls destroyed by forceful gusts, people in Nubian villages, Majority enclaves, and Coptic Christian areas opened their homes to local church teams. Outreach groups organized the distribution of blankets to provide warmth during winter desert nights. With the coverings, they listened and prayed.
For people practicing religious rituals void of a relationship with Jesus, Bibles could also be distributed along with the basic household supplies. Because a storm came, the Gospel could follow.
Listen to God for Guidance
It’s been a stormy season for Rania, but God used the unexpected hardships to create new opportunities. He put her where He wanted her at the right time. Please pray for Rania as she continues to listen to God in the storms.
- Pray for Rania as she works with a blend of Middle Eastern friends to reach those in need.
- Ask God to give Rania safety as she travels on her own within her country.
- Pray with Rania for God’s guidance in re-scheduling international ministry to a place and time He wants to use her.
- Ask God to help those who received blankets to know Jesus loves them and His followers showed them love.
