Giving New Hope to the Lowest Caste

lowest caste

Two of the lowest caste people groups in Nepal are struggling for food. Many people have committed suicide from these groups because they have nothing to eat. Many children are not enrolling in school because their parents are unable to provide their school supplies and tuition fees.

Floods are always a threat to these groups and sickness is attacking them too. Most children in these people groups suffer from malnutrution.

Pastor Bair, the leader of New Hope Nepal, prayerfully works to bring new hope to the lowest caste of people in Nepal through serving children with school and food.

The Problem of the Lowest Caste

These people live in groups. The upper caste people don't accept them because they are the lowest caste. Lowest caste people don't even experience the most basic human rights. About 99% of the people are illiterate.

These two groups' main income sources are begging, making instruments, performing dances, and primarily human trafficking. Most people live in sheds or tents. They don't have their own land. They live for today. They have nothing for tomorrow. They do not own anything except one or two cooking vessels.

The Hope for the Lowest Caste

By God's grace, we know the end of the story.

"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands." (Revelation 7:9)

We know God will save people from these two lowest-caste groups. Pastor Bair and his New Hope Nepal team are on the frontlines of evangelistic work among these people.

Education and Children's Ministry Needs

The main reasons people in these two lowest caste communities sell their girls into human trafficking is because they are poor and have no education. When you combine this with sinful, unrepentant hearts, trafficking thrives. Pastor Bair and New Hope Nepal are giving first priority to these two lowest caste people groups in Nepal for their education needs.

"We are trying our best to uplift this community people physically and spiritually. There are 27 [of these people group communities] in the far west Nepal. We have a plan and vision for [these] people. New Hope Nepal is giving first priority on [these slavery communities] children education. By the grace of God, we are helping 520 children on their education."

A Multi-faceted Approach

Pastor Bair and New Hope Nepal have put together a multi-faceted approach to give new hope to the lowest caste so that they will experience the love of Jesus and hear the Gospel while getting their basic needs met as a way out of human trafficking.

  1. Food for Children at School: If kids don't have food at home and don't have a meal at school, they will leave class and go to the streets to find it. Time in the streets is ripe with opportunity to enter human trafficking during desperate times. Feeding kids at school is the primary way to fight against hunger and trafficking opportunities. Feeding one child at school for a month costs $6.
  2. Food to Survive: This is famine season and most families have to go to the jungle and hunt mushrooms and wild fruits for survival until harvest. Sometimes they die from poisonous mushrooms. Rice will help families provide for their kids. A bag of rice costs $14.
  3. Clothes for Kids: Most kids in these lowest caste communities only have one outfit. They resort to stealing to try to get more clothes when the ones they have begin to fall off. One outfit costs $13. There are 906 children Pastor Bair has identified who need another outfit.
  4. Yearly Education Support: Education is the key to fighting systemic poverty. New Hope Nepal already has two school. This past year they helped 520 kids with their basic education and they still have 386 on the waiting list. Education support for one child for a year is $30.
  5. New Classroom and Old School Maintenance: New Hope Nepal needs to add a classroom to one school and repair a wall in the other due to a flood. Total cost for the projects is $5100.
  6. Life Skill Training for Moms: Mothers support their children's education better when they are educated and able to support themselves as well. The cost of one program for a year is $1180.
  7. Well Projects: The communities where many girls get trafficked from need clean drinking water. One well project costs $900.

Pastor Bair says they do all of these ministries because of the example of Jesus.

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’" (Matthew 25:35-40)

Pray that the people in the lowest castes of Nepal will experience lasting physical and spiritual relief from their earthly, and potentially eternal, suffering.
