The Brick Factory Alternative

Families in the Middle East can end up in a really difficult situation. Sometimes they owe money, or sometimes they just don’t have enough. It’s heartbreaking for us to see, and surely even more heartbreaking for families to do, but many times families will pull their kids out of school and send them to work to make up for the deficit.

The Problem

Public schools all cost money in this particular country in the Middle East, so there’s just no way to make it work for many families. A common way for families to save money and earn a tiny bit more is by sending their kids to work at a brick factory.

Brick factory owners are harsh though. Sometimes they charge “slave debt” and make it high enough so that families can never get their kids back out again. They will often make kids work incredibly long hours and deny them basic rights. Kids are known to get burned from the bricks and they don’t make anywhere near fair labor wages.

These kids are just so young and the conditions are so harsh.

God is at Work

But God is working even here. He has not forgotten about these kids.

Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:7)

God has inspired the hearts of many believers to rescue these kids from the brick factories and help them get an education that will prepare them for the future.

A Solution

Live Global desires to see kids sponsored and sent to a Christian school run by Middle Eastern believers. Each child’s sponsorship would include the following:

  • School tuition and fees
  • Educational materials and books
  • Two required school uniforms and shoes
  • Health and hygiene training
  • Nutritious food
  • Most importantly—an education about the person and work of Jesus Christ

Nothing Without Christ

Even if we rescued every child from the brick factories in the Middle East, if we didn’t tell them about Jesus, our efforts would be ultimately meaningless. As John Piper is known to say, “Christians care about all suffering, especially eternal suffering.”

That’s why it’s so important that these kids get sent to a school where teachers will teach them about Jesus. The school children will be sponsored to go to will do just that. They will also enroll each child in a mentoring program, a weekly Bible study, and will attempt a relationship with the child’s family to, Lord willing, extend the gospel’s impact beyond the walls of the school.

Will you pray with us that many children would be sponsored for $50 a month to receive this powerful life change and transformation?

In many parts of the Middle East, kids experience harsh childhoods. Often, when families are short on money or have gone into debt, they will offer their children as workers instead of sending them to school.

In many cases, children are at risk of working in the harsh conditions at a brick factory or doing hard physical labor of another kind. Many children are under 14 years old when they go to work and as a result they miss out on the education that would give them a brighter future.

The Sponsoring Kids for School project in the Middle East seeks to sponsor kids to send them to a Christian school. This way, they are able to get out of harsh conditions, receive a quality education that will prepare them to support themselves one day, and most importantly, teach them about Jesus Christ.
