Breaking Enemy Strongholds in Guyana Through VBS Outreaches

“Prayer request! VBS starts in 45 minutes and it is down pouring right now! Culturally most are afraid of the rain. They think that the rain carries disease. Pray that the storm will pass before VBS starts so the kids will come.”

That was Sarah’s urgent message to the Live Global team as she huddled in Guyana with partners João (John) and Fabi. Sarah serves full time with Live Global by building relationships with national partners like these. And—God answered our prayers that day. The rain let up and they had clear skies at the church. Praise the Lord!

Reaching Families through VBS in Guyana

This summer, João and Fabi set out to join the Lord in breaking enemy strongholds in their community in Guyana. The plan is to lead VBS-style camps in several villages, one of which they are visiting for the first time in seven years.

These places are dark. In one village, Pastor João prepared Sarah and her team that they would meet a 10-year-old boy who was set on fire by his own father. The boy can’t go to school anymore because he has a trach. Another village they visited is mostly inhabited by women and children, due to the high rate of suicide among men. One church is right across the street from a Hindu temple, filled with singing idol worshippers.

God Is Working in Guyana

But, God is working in Guyana and He’s using João and Fabi to build his church and raise up more leaders for Christ. God is also using Sarah as she serves alongside João and Fabi through prayer, encouragement, and advocacy. Sarah has spent tons of time in their home over the last many years, even caring for the kids while Fabi has endured a variety of illnesses. She has ventured on outreach trips like these VBS camps and has offered to do whatever needs to be done, wherever João and Fabi want to go.

You can also play a role in these partners’ lives or in the lives of national partners just like them. For João and Fabi you can join through prayer, financial giving, or even service opportunities as they become available. Or you could have an impact on a different national partner’s ministry – maybe one that lives and works in a part of the world that interests you.
