How Taking Care of the Needy Leads to Gospel Presentations
"Needy" can mean many things in Moldova. There are young widowed women with families and no income. There are elderly people with no friends or family to take care of them. There are disabled, injured, or sick people. There are orphans.
All of these people are made in the image of God. They have souls that will be spending eternity somewhere. And the Evangelism and Caring for the Poor project in Moldova desires by God's grace to see these needy people know Jesus and be saved.
There are many ways to reach these people. But here are some examples of how this project in Moldova, led by Pastor Victor and his wife Oksana, has aimed to use service to needy people as a way to open the door for gospel opportunities.
Sharing Resources with Those Who Need Them
You can see this elderly lady was in tears of joy when Pastor Victor and his team brought her jams, water, and food. She said that no one has ever blessed her with this kind of kindness in all her life.
She is not Christian, but pray so that one day she might accept Christ.
Since many families have problems with feeding their families due to a complicated economy, this project aims to help families by providing food, clothing, medicine, firewood, and resources to keep them going.
The goal is never to make these people rich or dependent on aid, but to show them God's love and preach the gospel through occasional visits intended to glorify Christ. When Pastor Victor's team is able to present them with a small, caring gift on these visits, it's their prayer that the gospel is brought to life.
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 4:10–11)
Supporting Families Who Care for Orphans
There are no longer orphanage buildings in Moldova. So many orphans were sent to people's homes. The ministry will make visits to these homes and families to help provide food, funds, and love.
The ministry is able to help these families, who were already poor, supplement their resources to enable them to care better and longer for the orphans they've mercifully taken in. They will also share the gospel with these families and encourage them to trust in the Lord.
"In you the orphan finds mercy." (Hosea 14:3)
Providing Medicine for a Fellow Believer
When they heard of a fellow believer getting in a horse riding accident, Pastor Victor's team responded with care and support. The man was in the hospital losing blood and had no money for medical attention. But after this ministry helped him with funds, he was able to get medicine and treatment.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:35)
